Citrus Season
Making the most of Northern California citrus season! While your basic citrus is now available in the supermarkets pretty much all year, our Northern California citrus season in late Winter to early Spring brings us homegrown organic Meyer lemons, mandarins, beautiful oranges, and so much more. It always amazes me that these bright, tangy fruits grow during the coldest time of the year here. It’s such a welcome sight after the dreary winter weather, and always inspires me to add something citrusy to our menu.
Meyer Lemon Dressing (Vinaigrette)
This is a light and fragrant salad dressing that's good for you, too! It also makes an amazing marinade or can be drizzled over cooked veggies or fish. Use a very good quality olive oil for the best results (and health benefits).
Persimmon Bars with Lemon Glaze
Have you ever been in a love-hate relationship? You know, when you really love something, until it's just too overbearing and overwhelming to deal with. That would be my relationship with our Fuyu Persimmon Tree. Love this thing, until, around January, when there's...
Dutch Oven Lemon Chicken and Rice
I love a one-pot dinner where the side starch cooks right along with the meat. Fewer pans means less clean-up and that's always a win for me. And I love lemon. This one has it all. And it's so easy, and good, and satisfying. Did I say good? Well, I should say great....
Lots-of-Lemon Lemon Bars
Mmmm... lemon. Love it! Lemon adds so much to so many dishes. But I love recipes where lemon is the star, like in these lemon bars. I've made a few lemon bars over the years, from a variety of recipes. Some have turned out, well, not so great. Sometimes the lemon...
Quick Lemon Orzo with Spinach, Feta and Dill
Faced with a big bag of spinach and a couple lemons that needed to be used, like today, as well as some chicken stock in the fridge, I noodled on how we might combine these for dinner. Bonus that we also had an open container of orzo and some feta too. While I...
Meyer Lemon Gremolata
Love this delicious and super healthy condiment on everything from roasted meats, to bread, to soup, to pasta, or just to eat by the spoonful! With a large patch of parsley starting to go to seed and a Meyer lemon tree drooping with heavy, ripe fruit, this is a...
Lemon Puff Pudding Cake
Part souffle and part pudding, this lemony dream cake is one of my favorite desserts ever. Really a classic. I'm certain there are many iterations out there, but it's really so simple. So full of lemon flavor, yet light and luscious If you love lemon, you'll love...
Fresh Orange Almond Cake (Gluten-free)
It's orange season here in California! And this is one of my new favorite ways to use our orange bounty. I don't have an orange tree, but my sister does, and when son Connor came home from her house with a bag full of these beauties, we started looking for ways to use...
Roasted Romanesco with Parmesan and Meyer Lemon
Romanesco is an amazing vegetable... something like a cross between cauliflower and broccoli, but with almost alien-looking features. We love getting this in our CSA box from Eatwell Farms, mostly in the Winter months. Here's how it looks when we get it in our box:...
